The show was a success right from the day it launched and ruled the roost for 11 weeks this year alone. The show completed its 400th episodes yesterday and the actors are upbeat about doubling the numbers thereby repeating its success. The successful run has overwhelmed the actors who have given their sweat and soul to the show. Says protagonist Akshara, “It is a fantastic feeling as this is my debut show which has taken my career to new heights. Echoing the sentiments, her mother Rajshri says, “It feels great to have completed a mark of 400 episodes successfully. The USP of the show is the emotions and small nuances that the viewers can relate to. A bahu can easily relate to the bahus on the show and so can a mother-in-law to the one they see on the show.”

She feels that it is the manner in which the characters have been written and worked upon so beautifully that they have eventually become so popular. “It’s not the actor who has made the character popular but the creative minds who have worked upon the characters so beautifully that they look real. We just portray it accordingly and this has worked in our favour,” quips the actress.

Akshara adds, “As a viewer you find it to be a story of any family staying next door to you. All the characters are so well etched out that you can’t help but end up loving them. The authenticity of the show has worked in our favour. This is how any Marwari family lives and looks at any relationship. This is a story of family and relationships. People simply love the sets and our costumes on the show. Our producer Rajan Shahi has taken extra care of every aspect of the production. He is caring, considerate and takes good care of us.”
Rajshri believes that it is the simplicity of the show that has worked in the favour of the show. She says, “There are no larger than life characters. They are all simple and real characters who any commoner can relate to. The show talks about day to day happenings which take place at any ordinary household which has made it a hit with the audience.”

Akshara feels that the concept of the joint family and all of them staying under the same roof and sharing each others’ problems is something that sets it apart from other shows.

Hina Khan or Akshara of STAR Plus’ Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai is undergoing a makeover in real life .Apart from getting a new portfolio made, she has also taken up driving lessons.


“She has developed a new passion for driving and after pack-up she is usually seen driving around Filmcity Studios. She is a good student and very enthusiastic as well. She is also planning to learn swimming and will be enrolling at a gym to keep fit. In the beginning it was very difficult for her to adapt to the shooting timings but she is now learning to manage time and is concentrating on herself.”

Says Hina, “I think being an actress I must know everything and so I’m taking driving lessons and also planning to pursue other activities like exercising, dancing. So let’s see how well I manage my time.”

When not shooting Hina prefers to sleep. “I love to be at home sleeping as we hardly sleep. I also love listening to music, watching movies and TV shows like my own show Yeh Rishta, Behenein and MTV’s What the Hack.”

Television actress Hina Khan aka Akshara Singhania of STAR Plus’s Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai believes that a basic but regular skin care regime is enough for a beautiful skin Here she reveals some of her beauty secrets…


Says Akshara, “I feel that whatever we eat shows on our face. Our face is the mirror of our internal system. I drink lots of water, at least 12 glasses a day. It helps me clear my system, which reflects on my skin. I also drink coconut water twice a day. A bowl of curd is also a must. I also have one amla a day to detoxify my system and retain the glow on my face. I eat both vegetarian and non-vegetarian food, but I don't overeat. Moderation is the key to a healthy body and when you have healthy body automatically there is a glow on your skin.”

She adds, “I go to a spa for a clean-up every 15 days and for a full body treatment once a month. But I don't believe in excessive artificial treatments. I prefer home remedies like applying fresh tomato face pack, as it refreshes my skin. I also put malai on my face sometimes, and also take steam to soften my skin. A mixture of dried orange rind and milk is great for exfoliating the skin. I also use milk and rosewater on my skin to keep it supple.”

My face care: I wash my face daily in the morning with rose water. In the evenings, I get rid of the make-up with a dose of coconut oil. Thereafter, I wash my face and apply some Lacto calamine lotion. I never wash my face with soap, instead I use a face wash. Other than on the sets, I hardly wear any make-up. I use a good moisturizer that suits my skin type. I believe that keeping your skin clean and eating right are the only two fundas that work well.

Hair Care: I oil my hair once a week with olive oil. A fortnightly hair spa treatment and an egg-curd home-conditioning regime is my routine. I get my hair trimmed every two months to avoid split ends. To add shine to my hair, I squeeze one lemon in a bucketful of water and wash my hair with it after shampooing.

It's celebration time on Star Plus Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai as the Singhania family is preparing for the impending wedding of Nandini and Mohit.

As expected, their relatives, both close and far off are going to be a part of this occasion. And with this, Ali Merchant who essays the role of Rituraj, Naitik’s (Karan Mehra) cousin, will make a comeback on the show for the third time.

Says Merchant, “Yes, I am making a comeback on the show. Actually, I wouldn’t term it as a comeback because this is my cameo appearance number three on the show. It feels as if I have returned from a holiday. I have already been on the show twice and this is my third time. The entire cast has become like family and it always feels great to shoot with them.”

Talking about how this cameo is going to be different from the last two, Ali says, “I will be accompanied by my wife, played by rookie actress Preeti. She is a perfect mix of beauty and brains. She is a perfectionist and intelligent. She is someone who the entire family looks up to.”

The popular show has always registered a rise in viewership when it brings back Ali’s track and it is likely that this will be a hatrick. Akshara’s tips on how to adjust to marriage

I HAVE always been of the opinion that one should make the most of life. I was raised to be a good daughter and a good Bahu. I was taught to respect my elders, and be very dutiful and courteous.

That is why I took my arranged marriage in my stride. Like most girls in India, I have been raised and accustomed to expect an arranged marriage. What makes my experience different, I believe is that, never in my most fervent dreams did I expect to get a husband as wonderful as Naitik. Never once did I expect to fall in love with the person I married so wholeheartedly and completely. I cannot thank God enough for all that He has given me so far!

Of late, though, I have been thinking of developing a more meaningful relationship with my fans. I have been thinking of all the girls who will probably go through an arranged marriage, unsure, uncertain and nervous of what the future holds for them.

What I have learnt
It is always difficult to adjust to a completely new and different environment for a girl after her marriage. It feels as though you have been dug out from the soil that has nurtured you all this while to get planted in new ground. It was the same for me, when I transformed from a Beti to a Bahu.

I left the comfortable, familiar surroundings of my house, the secure, loving world nurtured over the years by my parents, to embark on a new journey with a complete stranger, Naitik.

When I married him, I was completely clueless about how to cope with the new environment. I was so fearful about impressing my in-laws and gaining their acceptance, so that I could secure a place in their hearts.

I have missed my family terribly. There have been times when I wanted to simply leave everything behind and go back to them. One person stopped me. Naitik. He was the one who made me feel comfortable and loved every day of my new life.

So this is what I did.

Be patient
I familiarised myself with the new surroundings gradually. I didn’t let my eagerness to win over people’s hearts come in the way of forging a lasting bond. Slowly but patiently, I tried to understand the people in my new family. Their likes. Their dislikes. Their hobbies. Their daily habits. Over time, I came to know and love them as my own.

Naitik’s parents became my parents. His sisters became my siblings. Through Nandini and Rashmi, I found the sisters I never had and loved. They now look up to me for advise, and it gives me immense pleasure when I am able to put a smile on their faces.

Have an open mind
Today, my husband and I love each other dearly. And can I tell you a secret? I think the mantra to my successful marriage is that I have accepted my husband’s family with open arms and with an open mind!

Every new bride like me must make the effort to treat her husband’s family as her own.

Initially, it will be difficult. I know. I have been through it. Who knows better than me, that replacing your own loving parents with someone else is unthinkable! But look at it this way. They are your husband’s parents. They love him and look up to him with blind adoration and hope. They have showered the best of attention and care into raising him. To them goes the credit of shaping him into the person you married.

Would you not respect them for it? Would you not love them because they raised the person you love? Now, does that make it easier for you?

Give your new family a chance!
So just give your new family a chance. Frankly, all I did was to give them the chance to know that I was ready to be a part of their family. And there has been no looking back for all of us!

I have to go now. My little Nandini will soon become a bride, and I have to help her! Please pray for her, dear readers. Please pray that she gets a family as wonderful as mine!
